The third and final batch of artists expected to entertain guests and viewers at the forthcoming MTV Africa Music Awards has been released. Over weeks, the ceremony’s organiser MTV has released names of prospective performers, most of them nominees.
In each of the preceding list, the continent’s pop powerhouses Nigeria and South Africa have been represented. Rapper Casper Nyovest and singer Bucie from the Southern African country, and rapper Olamide, Phyno, Lil Kesh among others representing the West African country. All of them are nominees.
Last week, Nigerian singer 2face join the list with the announcement of the second batch. And now, his co-singers on 2011’s ‘Possibility’, P-Square, have been confirmed with the last group of performers to grace the stage in Durban, South Africa. Announced along with the Okoye twins is their compatriot Flavour, the contemporary highlife crooner. Completing the trio of entertainers named for the event is R&B singer Seyi Shay.
This announcement means the last set of singers are entirely from the West African country. The previous lists had Nigerians as well.
Speaking at the Road to MAMA concert held in Lagos 3 July, Alex Okosi Senior Vice President of Viacom International Media, explained to Music In Africa that Nigeria’s commercial centre, Lagos, is an important market for MTV. ‘It is a key market and our most important market,’ he said. ‘Nigeria was the first office we opened.’
The 2015 ceremony take place on Saturday 18 July. It will be broadcasted live across the continent via the DStv platform.
