Nigerian rapper Psycho YP to represent crypto brand
24 Jan 2023 - 10:15
Nigerian artist Psycho YP has joined crypto company Yellow Card Financial as a brand ambassador.
Yellow Card was launched in Nigeria in 2019 and is currently active in 15 other territories. In 2022, the company announced its Series B fundraising of $40m, bringing total funds to $57m.
The American company claims that its latest signing aligns with an overall vision to empower young people across Africa. It recognises music as a common thread that ties Africans together.
Signed with Apex Village, Psycho YP shot into the mainstream with projects like the mixtapes YPSZN and YPSZN2 as well as his Euphoria EP. He joins other musicians like Ghana’s Stonebwoy, who already represents the brand.
“In the last few years, we have been at the forefront of fostering financial inclusion in Africa,” Yellow Card West Africa regional marketing manager Rachael Akalia said. “As we proceed into the New Year, we will not rest on our oars but double down on ensuring crypto adoption by prospects and customers across the breadth and width of the continent. We see music as a special purpose vehicle with the potential to drive the message and acceptance of crypto for everyday use, helping the continent gain financial freedom and prosperity”.
Psycho YP welcomed the partnership as an opportunity to create financial awareness on the continent using music, noting that the platform has “continually shown creativity in providing financial solutions across borders on the continent. And I am happy to be part of Yellow Card’s efforts to change the financial narrative of Africa and Africans using crypto.”
Cryptocurrency aggregator CoinGecko recently revealed Nigeria as the most “crypto-curious” nation in Africa, currently ranking as Africa’s second-largest crypto trading market after Kenya.
Yellow Card added that the partnership underlines its commitment to deepen the adoption of digital currencies in Nigeria and beyond. It said the deal “will see Psycho YP rallying youths to embrace a new era of financial opportunity, putting to good use his fresh and youthful aura, which resonates with the youths on the continent and aligns with Yellow Card’s vision of a continent with borderless financial solutions driven by innovation.”
