The general public is invited to participate in a Concerts SA (CSA) Women in Live Music survey as part of a broader SAMRO research agenda on women in music.
The aim of the survey is to create a statistical snapshot of the role of women in live music and identify practical steps that can be taken to ensure that women and female-identifying people in live music:
- Get fair representation.
- Access equitable pay and work opportunities.
- Feel safe in their music work.
Survey consent:
The survey will use the data provided to produce a recommendation report for Concerts SA and SAMRO.
“We may also use it in related activities such as media releases and on panels and in broadcasts to make the findings of the report public,” Concerts SA said. “We will not name or otherwise identify any survey respondent in these contexts. Consistent with the requirements of the Protection of Personal Information Act we will keep the data secure and keep it only for as long as the research project requires.”
Interested participants can participate in the survey here. The deadline is 14 December 2023.
CSA seeks to develop an interest in and appreciation of live music by showcasing music performances and conducting workshops at schools. Activities are designed in response to working and researching in the music sector, addressing the biggest hurdles standing between South African audiences and regular, accessible, well-organised local live music performances. Sustainable live music platforms provide employment for musicians who are historically prone to exploitation, and the circuits provide valuable opportunities for creative collaboration.
All queries about the research project or how the data will be used and kept should be sent via email at [email protected].
