Open call: Downtown Music Publishing Africa webinar series on music rights

The series is aimed at songwriters, artists, producers, managers, publishers and other music industry professionals seeking practical knowledge about the business and legal aspects of music.

The sessions will cover:

• 2 September – Trust, Safety & Data Integrity: An examination of information protection, digital risks and the role of data integrity in the music industry.
• 9 September – Estate Planning & Intellectual Property Succession: A discussion on managing music rights and intellectual property after a creator’s death, including the importance of planning for the protection of creative assets and future income.
• 16 September – Cleared to Create: Understanding the Right to Reproduce: A practical session on reproduction rights, clearances and the requirements for legally reproducing and commercially using music.

The series will address the business considerations surrounding music creation and ownership, with organisers aiming to make complex rights and industry issues more accessible to participants.
