Open call: SXSW 2027 Music Festival Showcase
24 Jun 2026 - 09:13
Applications are open for artists seeking to perform at the 2027 SXSW Music Festival, scheduled to take place in Austin, Texas, from 15 to 21 March 2027.
The festival is inviting submissions from artists across all music genres and from all regions of the world. Both signed and unsigned artists are eligible to apply.
Selected artists will be offered one official SXSW showcase performance during the festival. Showcase sets typically run for 40 minutes, although performance lengths may vary depending on genre and venue requirements.
Applicants will be notified of their selection status by email on or before 18 December 2026.
Eligibility
Applications are open to:
- Artists of all music genres
- Signed and unsigned acts
- Solo performers, duos and bands
- Artists based anywhere in the world
Showcase benefits
Artists invited to perform will receive an Official SXSW Artist Registration Package, which includes:
- SXSW Artist Badges for each performing member
- One badge for a tour manager or artist manager
- Access to official SXSW events
- Additional artist-specific benefits available during the festival
Invited artists are not required to purchase a SXSW credential in order to participate in the showcase programme.
Artists who are not selected may still attend SXSW by purchasing credentials at a discounted rate after receiving notification of their application status.
Compensation option for US artists
Instead of receiving the Artist Registration Package, US-based acts may opt for a one-time payment:
- $400 for bands with three or more performers
- $175 for solo artists or duos
The payment is made per act rather than per performer. Artists must choose either the compensation option or the registration package, as combinations are not permitted.
Travel and Visa requirements
- SXSW does not provide funding for travel or accommodation costs.
- International artists are responsible for obtaining any visas or travel documentation required for entry into the United States.
Performance conditions
All invited artists must comply with the festival's exclusivity policy, which includes:
- Treating the official SXSW showcase as their primary festival performance.
- Not performing at unofficial or non-SXSW events between 7pm and 2am Central Time during the festival period.
- Avoiding activities that may negatively affect attendance at their official SXSW showcase.
Certain exceptions apply, including short radio and television appearances and in-store performances at record stores.
SXSW also reserves the right to restrict additional performances that may conflict with festival activities.
Application process
- Applications must be submitted through the SXSW Music Festival Showcase application system.
- Applicants should receive a confirmation email within 48 hours of submission. Those who do not receive confirmation are advised to contact SXSW to verify that their application has been received.
