Management company, Panamusiq has signed Tanzanian musician Grace Matata, adding to their stable which also includes Anto NeoSoul and Chess Nthusi from Kenya, 36 States from Nigeria and Cameroonian Pierre Bae.
Matata, an afro-soul and RnB singer and songwriter is a 2015 Kilimanjaro Music Awards nominee. She describes her music as “a unique blend of Swahili soul, RnB and jazz with a special touch of poetry and light, heartwarming melodies”.
Matata has grabbed the industry’s attention with her single, ‘Free Soul’ and her first album, Nyakati released in 2013. Some of her other memorable singles include ‘Wimbo’, ‘Uwe wangu’, ‘Hello’ in which she collaborated with Maua Sama and ‘Tabibu’, a duet with Tanzania’s bongo flava/zouk songbird, Mwasiti. Her latest release, ‘Utanifaa’, has been dominating the airwaves across Tanzania.
Matata has been carving a niche as a live performer, and plays with a four-piece band that performs at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dar es Salaam every Friday. She has shared the stage with Tanzania’s Lady Jaydee, Didier Awadi (Senegal) and Wyre Lovechild (Kenya).
Some of the highlights of her career were performing at DOADOA 2016 in Uganda, Zanzibar Beach & Watersports Festival in 2015 and the Zanzibar International Film Festival in 2014.
