Playlist: Ghana decides 2020

The campaigns in the lead-up to 7 December have largely focused on infrastructure development, managing the COVID-19 pandemic, and the economy, which has seen a significant contribution from the creative industry. It has also been characterised by mouth-watering promises to the creative arts –­­ including a fund for the sector, face-lifting theatres and cultural centres across the country, provision of studios for musicians and filmmakers, and a digitisation drive.

In keeping up with the country’s reputation as a beacon of democracy, the two leading candidates on Friday signed a pact for good conduct and peaceful elections in the capital. The pre-election campaign was characterised by healthy debate and underlined by a unanimous call for calm before, during and after the polls, leading musicians including Obrafour, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy to lend their voices to the call.

“Both @NAkufoAddo and @JDMahama are good friends. Why should you allow yourself to be influenced to create confusion in the country due to elections? Think twice ghetto youth. The future is in your hands, use your thumb not the arms. Be wise and vote in peace,” Shatta Wale said on Twitter.

“It’s voting day! Let’s go out and vote peacefully. Eschew any form of violence before, during and after the elections. Vote wisely! Vote for the good of Ghana and let’s maintain our peace,” Obrafour added.
