Rwandan dignity campaign releases song

Titled ‘Agaciro Kanjye’ (My Dignity), the song features musicians Riderman, Patient Bizimana, Israel Mbonyi, King James, Knowless Butera, Meddy and The Ben. The song makes part of the campaign scheduled to run between 25 May and 27 July.

AGDF communication and public relations officer Nadia Uwitonze told a local publication that the song aims to raise awareness on the importance of the fund, which is valued at more than 42 billion Rwandan francs ($50m).

“Some people think that contributing to Agaciro requires a lot of money but the fact is that everyone can contribute whatever they can, depending on their financial capacity,” Uwitonze said.

AGDF chief shared services officer Francine Uwamariya said the public could also buy ‘Agaciro Kanjye’ as a caller tune on any local service provider.

“Contributing to the fund is a shared responsibility for all Rwandans,” she said. “What we are doing today will secure the future generations. Every contribution is valuable and in contributing people should not see it as a burden but rather something they are doing with pride.”

Uwitonze said obtaining the caller tune would allow the public to enter into a draw to win various prizes such as motorcycles, laptops, mattresses and one-year university scholarships.

Rwandans can buy the caller tune by dialling *193*9#.

The AGDF was set up in 2011 to build up public savings to achieve self-reliance, maintain stability in times of shocks to the Rwandan economy and accelerate the country's socio-economic development goals.
