South African producer duo Black Motio has released an Afro-house remix of New York-based R&B singer Lisa Ramey’s track ‘Better Than That’, through Lisa Ramey Music.
The remix, which is available for streaming and download on major digital platforms, features a percussion-driven reworking of the original song, which appeared on Ramey’s 2024 EP Foretaste.
The original version of ‘Better Than That’, featured on Foretaste, has recorded more than 665 000 streams on Spotify. It was produced by three-time GRAMMY-nominated producer Joe Capo Kent, mixed by Sam Maul of Shock City Studios and mastered by Glenn Schick.
“When the challenge came to remix Lisa Ramey’s ‘Better Than That’, we were all in,” Black Motion said. “We wanted to bring our own touch and feel to the song, giving her audience a taste of the South African vibe. With Spice Drums adding his signature feel, we hope people feel the same energy and joy we felt while creating it.”
According to the group, the remix maintains the emotional core of the original track while introducing layered percussion and Afro-house rhythms intended for dancefloor settings.
Black Motion was formed in 2010 by Thabo “Smol” Mabogwane and Bongani “Murdah Bongz” Mohosana, and is now joined by Kabelo “Problem Child Ten83” Koma. The group has released music through Defected Records and received multiple South African Music Awards, including Best Duo/Group of the Year. Their debut album Fortune Teller achieved Gold certification, while Ya Badimo went Platinum and won Best Dance Album. Their 2024 release The Cradle of Art earned four nominations at the SAMA31 ceremony. The group has also performed for NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) series.
Lisa Ramey gained broader recognition as a finalist on NBC’s The Voice, where she performed on Team Legend. Earlier in 2025, she toured in the United States as one of the vocalists in Zayn Malik’s all-female, seven-member backing band. Her debut album Surrender (2020) was ranked at number 34 on Good Morning America’s list of the top 50 albums of the year. She has also taken part in the Global Citizen ‘Together at Home’ concert series alongside international artists.
