NEFCISA

The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is proud of its partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as a Strategic Implementing Partner (SIP) for its Social Employment Fund (SEF). Through this collaboration, MIAF is running a national programme that is creating jobs, addressing skills gaps, and strengthening South Africa's creative industries — in line with the SEF's overarching goal to generate work for the common good and build community value through employment, social contribution, and inclusive economic participation. Operating under the banner NEFCISA (National Employment Facility for Creative Industries in South Africa), the initiative is recruiting and training participants, matching them with host organisations, and has already placed 1 500 workers across the country — surpassing its original target of 1 000. NEFCISA is delivered through a network of 20 host organisations spanning five provinces, who are actively hosting participants and contributing to work for the common good across South Africa's creative and cultural industries. Key Objectives: Support employment and entrepreneurship in the creative industries. Offer skills development and training programmes. Foster partnerships between public and private creative sectors. Promote South African creativity at both provincial and national levels Foster community development through social contribution.

For cultural and creative practitioners and organisations operating in southern Africa, access to funding remains a major challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a massive impact on government policy, spending and the economy in general, and has seen spending on culture being moved further down the list of priorities. Further, the cultural and creative industries repeatedly cite four main areas where investment is needed for growth, which are increased visibility, mobility including access to new markets, finance and support structures.

South African vocal group The Joy have released a new single, ‘Precious’, marking a new creative direction for the KwaZulu-Natal-based five-piece.

The Joy.

The song blends English and isiZulu lyrics and is the group’s first release to feature predominantly English-language vocals. Produced by Grammy Award-winning producer P2J, the track combines contemporary pop elements with the vocal harmonies that have become a hallmark of The Joy’s sound.

P2J is known for his work with international artists including Beyoncé, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Tems.

According to information accompanying the release, ‘Precious’ explores themes of love and commitment, while maintaining the group's emphasis on vocal harmony and emotional storytelling. A visualiser has also been released alongside the single.

The release follows a period of growing international recognition for The Joy, whose blend of African vocal traditions and contemporary music has attracted attention beyond South Africa.

The group first gained widespread recognition with their viral single ‘Isencane Lengane’ and later released the EP Amabutho in 2021. Since then, they have appeared on international platforms including The Jennifer Hudson Show and Later... with Jools Holland.

The Joy have also received public support from artists including Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Sam Smith and Jennifer Hudson.

In recent years, the group has expanded its international profile through collaborations with Doja Cat and The Blessed Madonna. The Joy also featured on Jennifer Hudson’s Christmas album, The Gift of Love.

The release of ‘Precious’ comes after several high-profile appearances, including a performance with Doja Cat at the Global Citizen Africa event. The group has also continued to grow its online audience, attracting more than one million followers on TikTok.

Founded in KwaZulu-Natal, The Joy have built a reputation for combining traditional South African vocal styles with contemporary pop influences. With ‘Precious’, the group continues its efforts to reach wider audiences while maintaining the musical identity that has defined its rise.
