SA: Judith Sephuma to launch live studio concert for Women’s Day
07 Aug 2020 - 09:55
South African Award-winning musician Judith Sephuma is set to launch a 66-minute live studio show titled Judith Sephuma in Concert: The Jazz Unplugged.
The on-demand virtual concert is in celebration of Women’s Day in South Africa on 9 August. The show will go live the night before at 8pm and will be available until 22 August.
The event will showcase a stripped-down performance of her popular songs, including ‘A Cry, A Smile, A Dance’, ‘Music in the Air’, ‘Mme Motswadi’, ‘Maropeng’, ‘Tseleng’ and a version of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, among others.
“The jazz concert was sparked by this lockdown,” Sephuma told B Sharp Entertainment. “From the beginning of lockdown, I’ve been wanting to have a virtual concert but have it done correctly. It’s important for our fans and friends to always see us as they know us. Also, so that people don’t forget us. I am always about bringing music to the people. So we decided to shoot The Jazz Unplugged. Hopefully people will enjoy it.”
Sephuma released her debut album A Cry, A smile, A Dance in 2001, which was certified triple platinum in South Africa. She has also gained recognition beyond the country's borders and has performed with a number of international stars such as BeBe Winans, Oleta Adams, Jonathan Butter, Randy Crawford and Chaka Khan.
Last year, she released her eighth studio album Power of Dreams, which was nominated for a South African Music Award in the Best African Adult Contemporary Album category. The singer on 4 August also opened the second night of the 2020 SAMAs virtual event, which will run until 7 August.
