South African singer Kelly Khumalo has released a single titled ‘Empini’ (At War).
The song is off her upcoming eight-track album The Voice of Africa, which is set for release in October. The album will be available for pre-order in August.
‘Empini’ was written and produced by Mondli Ngcobo and “talks about a love that conquers everything set against it,” Khumalo told Music In Africa.
“The song is inspired by conquering everything that is set to destroy us. The message is to never give up no matter what comes our way. The theme of the song is about who we are and where we come from as Africans, which is also the main theme of the album.”
Khumalo began work on The Voice of Africa last year and most of the songs on the album were recorded during the COVID-19 lockdown.
