SA: Kunye and Platoon unite for Cape Town’s end-of-year gig

The event, scheduled for 29 December at Cabo Beach Club in Cape Town, is poised to be a standout highlight in the city’s internationally celebrated summer season. Kunye and Platoon’s collaboration exemplifies their commitment to nurturing African talent and elevating Afrohouse and Afrotech music to new heights.

It will feature Kunye founder Shimza, alongside Mpho.WAV, Kenza, and Sun-El Musician. They will be joined by UK-based DJ Kitty Amor, South African stalwarts Kid Fonque, Darque, Shamiso, Sir LSG, and rising talents Mila Rose and Abby Nurock.

Shimza’s Kunye events have become a South African summer tradition, drawing diverse audiences together for ground-breaking Afrohouse experiences. Each instalment of Kunye is uniquely curated, delivering a fresh and exhilarating atmosphere that cements its reputation as a cultural cornerstone.

The collaboration with Platoon is no coincidence. Platoon has been a key music partner for Kunye’s label imprint since its inception, providing robust artist services and supporting its growing community. The label has facilitated the release of standout tracks from artists such as Thakzin, Blanka Mazimela, and Darque, as well as global remixes by renowned producers including Louie Vega, Mele, Rodriguez Jr., and Nandu.

Shimza’s Dreaming EP and the compilation The Future is Afro, featuring talents like Mpho.WAV, Teqnik, Atmos Blaq, and Argento Dust, are among the most notable releases of 2024. Kunye has also expanded its reach through curated DJ mixes, now available on Apple Music Atmos, and earned recognition as Label of the Month on Beatport in November.

Adding to the anticipation, Shimza is set to deliver a record-breaking three-hour set at the Cape Town event. This follows his recent two-hour performance in Johannesburg, which featured a surprise appearance by global superstar Black Coffee, raising expectations for yet another extraordinary moment.
