The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is proud of its partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as a Strategic Implementing Partner (SIP) for its Social Employment Fund (SEF). Through this collaboration, MIAF is running a national programme that is creating jobs, addressing skills gaps, and strengthening South Africa's creative industries — in line with the SEF's overarching goal to generate work for the common good and build community value through employment, social contribution, and inclusive economic participation. Operating under the banner NEFCISA (National Employment Facility for Creative Industries in South Africa), the initiative is recruiting and training participants, matching them with host organisations, and has already placed 1 500 workers across the country — surpassing its original target of 1 000. NEFCISA is delivered through a network of 20 host organisations spanning five provinces, who are actively hosting participants and contributing to work for the common good across South Africa's creative and cultural industries. Key Objectives: Support employment and entrepreneurship in the creative industries. Offer skills development and training programmes. Foster partnerships between public and private creative sectors. Promote South African creativity at both provincial and national levels Foster community development through social contribution.

The programme marks the beginning of a more concerted effort by the Foundation to support the participation and inclusion of women in all facets of its programmes and the music sector in Africa as a whole. For cultural and creative practitioners and organisations operating in southern Africa, access to funding remains a major challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a massive impact on government policy, spending and the economy in general, and has seen spending on culture being moved further down the list of priorities. Further, the cultural and creative industries repeatedly cite four main areas where investment is needed for growth, which are increased visibility, mobility including access to new markets, finance and support structures.

Award-winning broadcaster and media personality Loot Love has been announced as the host of the 2026 Basadi in Music Awards (BIMA) Vanguard Awards, which will take place at the Joburg Theatre in Johannesburg on 7 August.

Loot Love.

The appointment follows LootLove’s recognition as Entertainment Radio Presenter of the Year at the 2025 Basadi in Music Awards. She will now host the second edition of the Vanguard Awards, an event that recognises women working behind the scenes in the music industry.

The Vanguard Awards honour professionals including artist managers, producers, publicists, music executives, promoters, booking agents, stylists, radio producers and music journalists.

Basadi in Music Awards CEO Hloni Modise Matau said LootLove’s appointment reflected the organisation’s commitment to recognising women in the industry.

“Loot Love embodies everything the Basadi in Music Awards stands for. She is authentic, fearless, accomplished and continues to use her voice to inspire others. Having received the Entertainment Radio Presenter of the Year award last year, it is incredibly fitting to welcome her back as the host of our Vanguard Awards.”

Modise Matau said the event seeks to acknowledge the contributions of women whose work often takes place out of the public spotlight.

“The Vanguard Awards holds a very special place in our hearts because it shines a light on the phenomenal women whose work often happens behind the scenes. These are the managers, producers, executives, publicists, stylists, journalists, promoters and industry leaders who continue to shape African music every single day.”

She added that the awards had received more than 100 000 public votes ahead of this year’s ceremony, describing the figure as an indication of growing public support for the initiative.

Loot Love said hosting the event after previously receiving an award was a significant milestone.

“The Basadi in Music Awards has become such an important platform for recognising and celebrating women who continue to shape our industry. To return as host after receiving an award myself is truly an honour. I look forward to celebrating the incredible women whose dedication, resilience and excellence continue to move our industry forward.”

Maphike Attorneys Inc. managing director, Manaileng Maphike, said Loot Love’s experience and public profile made her a suitable choice to lead the ceremony.

“It is a true honour to welcome LootLove as the host of the second Basadi in Music Awards Vanguard Awards. Her professionalism, authenticity and remarkable ability to connect with audiences make her the perfect choice to lead this special celebration.”

Joburg City Theatres CEO Xoliswa Nduneni-Ngema said the venue was pleased to host the awards again as they mark their fifth anniversary.

“Joburg Theatre is honoured to once again welcome the Basadi in Music Awards to a venue that has long been a home for artistic excellence, cultural expression and the celebration of South African talent.”

Nduneni-Ngema said the event contributes to recognising women's achievements in music while supporting the country's creative sector.

SABC Video Entertainment Marketing Manager Dichaba Phalatse said the broadcaster’s partnership with the awards aligns with its commitment to promoting South African talent.

“The Basadi in Music Awards is more than an awards ceremony; it is a celebration of the women whose talent, resilience and leadership continue to shape South Africa's cultural landscape.”

According to the organisers, public voting for the main Basadi in Music Awards remains open until 18 July at 23:59 SAST. The organisation said more than 100 000 votes have already been cast.

The Vanguard Awards will be held on 7 August, followed by the fifth annual Basadi in Music Awards on 8 August. Tickets for the Vanguard Awards are available at R300 each through the Joburg Theatre.
