South African artists Kwesta, Sjava and Thandiswa Mazwai will perform at the 2018 edition of the Mzansi Fela Festival at the South African State Theatre (SAST) in Pretoria. The event, which is in its 11th edition this year, will run from 10 November to 15 December.
Other artists who are billed to perform at the festival include Lebo Sekgobela, Ringo Madlingozi, Vusi Nova and Dr Tumi.
SAST producer Keamogetswe Moeketsane told Music In Africa that the event will also include upcoming artists.
“The festival does not only cater for big names. The ones listed here are headliners of the programme,” he said. “We usually have young and developing artists opening for such acts and making a name for themselves. We will be showcasing up and coming artists and providing them a bigger platform to showcase their talent thus exposing them to wider audiences.
“This year we are hoping to cater for all age groups and target the youth in hip-hop, Afro pop, jazz and gospel.”
Asked if the event is only intended for local artists, Setseta said “We are a theatre of Africa, we have hosted Oliver Mtukudzi before and we plan to book more African artists in the future. This line-up is not the end, there is still more to come on this year’s line-up. Who knows, there might be an international guest up our sleeve.”
Moeketsane said festival-goers could expect much from the event. “There is everything for everyone. This is an opportunity for fans to enjoy with their favourite musicians. The line-up is just crazy, we have never had such a diverse line-up.”
The festival will kick-off with the BET Award-winning artist Sjava sharing the stage with ‘N’gud’ singer Kwesta on 10 November. Lebo Sekgobela and Thandiswa Mazwai will perform on 7 and 8 December respectively, while Ringo Madlogozi is paired with Vusi Nova on the 9th. Contemporary gospel artist Dr Tumi will entertain fans twice, on 14 and 15 December.
Tickets to the event are available via Computicket.
