SA: REASON Releases new album ‘Porches’

Following his debut album 'New Beginnings' released in 2020, this new musical offering dives even deeper into the nature of the human experience, emphasizing the common threads that connect us all.

'Porches’ features guest appearances from fellow Top Dog Entertainment(TDE) artists such as Doechii, SiR, Zacari, and Ray Vaughn, among others. The album also boasts production contributions from renowned producers such as Boi-1da, Vinylz, fierce, Hollywood Cole, Coleman, Mike Hector, and DJ Swish.

In a recent NPR interview, REASON offered insight into his artistic approach, stating, "I feel like I'm almost, like, a comedian - not from the, you know, make-you-laugh standpoint, but how honest comedians are. Comedy is almost the only true art form left where you can just be brutally honest." This unfiltered honesty and vulnerability are palpable throughout 'Porches', establishing a powerful connection with listeners.

The album's central concept revolves around the idea that the only thing separating individuals is the metaphorical "porch" from which they come, highlighting the shared experiences and emotions that bridge any apparent divides.'Porches’ is approximately an hour long and comprises a collection of 17 tracks, each thoughtfully crafted to explore the profoundness of human connection.

In an exclusive interview with hypebeast.com, REASON shared his inspiration behind 'Porches': "My first album was for the fans. I wanted to give them everything they wanted as a thank you for the support they’ve given. At this moment in my life, I needed a lot of love and understanding... Porches is about love and understanding. We’re all connected. We all go through similar trials and battles. I think we can all use more understanding and love throughout that process."

REASON's musical evolution has been punctuated by accolades and recognitions throughout his career. From being named Hype Magazine’s "King of the Bedroom" in 2005 to landing in the Top 5 Hottest Unsigned Rappers in South Africa by Hype Magazine the same year, his impact has been consistently acknowledged. Furthermore, his list of achievements includes being YFM’s Hip Hop Show Rap Activity’s Emcee of the Month in 2005 and earning a spot in the "10 Hottest Rappers in South Africa" in 2013.
