The video uses visual storytelling to explore the song’s themes of culture, emotion and identity, while reflecting the duo’s blend of contemporary Afro-pop and traditional maskandi influences.
“We wanted the video to match the feeling of the song,” Spirit & Thonadoo said. “It’s a visual representation of our story, our culture and the message behind ‘Dali Buya’. We hope audiences connect with it just as they have connected with the music.”
Released earlier, ‘Dali Buya’ reached No. 32 on the Radio Monitor charts and has continued to gain traction on TikTok, where users have incorporated the song into their own videos. The track has become one of the duo’s most prominent releases, introducing their fusion of Afro-pop melodies and maskandi sounds to a wider audience.
Based in KwaZulu-Natal, Spirit & Thonadoo have built their sound around the combination of contemporary Afro-pop and maskandi, with lyrics and themes rooted in South African culture and everyday experiences.
