SA: Stogie T inks Def Jam Recordings Africa deal

He joins local artists Lucasraps, Boity, Cassper Nyovest, Nadia Nakai, Nasty C, Tshego, Tellaman, Ricky Tyler, Larry Gaaga and Vector, who are all signed to the Universal Music Group imprint.

The deal champions DJRA’s “long-standing commitment to support urban culture by unearthing new talent and promoting music globally.” The announcement coincides with the release of Stogie T’s single ‘Mama Say’, which is now available for streaming and download.

“The story of hip hop is incomplete with Def Jam’s incalculable contribution to its growth and greatness,” Stogie T said. “I cannot express how proud I am to add my journey to that story.”

Stogie T, whose real name is Tumi Molekane, has enjoyed a long music career that spans more than 15 years. Apart from his solo work, he is also known for his work with hip hop group Tumi and the Volume, which made waves in the South African scene with the release of the At the Bassline live album in 2004. The ‘Dunno’ hitmaker has built his brand on undisputed musical and lyrical flair, and unrestricted devotion to collaborations – a true testament to his current momentous partnership with DJRA.
