SAMAs 2022 Day 1: All the winners
The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) has announced the the first batch of this year’s South African Music Awards (SAMAs) winners at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg on 27 August.
The remaining winners will be announced at the same venue on 28 August. Among some of the most popular winners include Nomfundo Moh, who won the Best Afro Pop Album while Chymamusique took home his first SAMA award when he emerged tops in the Best Dance Album category.
Msaki clinched the Best Adult Contemporary Album for Platinumb Heart Open while Dladla Mshunqisi’s Umshunqo Reloaded earned him the Best Gqom Album accolade. Amarato claimed the Best Kwaito Album Sun-El Musician and Azana walked away with the Remix of the Year for Uhuru. The Best African Adult Contemporary Album award went to Mandisi Dyantyis while Thokozani Langa took the Best Maskandi Album Award.
Yvonne Chaka Chaka received the inaugural Chairman's Award for her unique and outstanding contributions to the music industry's growth, success and sustainability. Other winners in different categories include Young Stunna, Jimmy Dludlu and Nigeria's Tems.
Meanwhile, the ceremony featured performances from Master KG, Khuli Chana, Brian Temba, Puleng March, Ncebakazi Msomi, Reign Afrika, Mobi Dixon and Joda Kgosi.
“We are immensely proud of the recipients of these technical excellence awards," RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said. "Their hard work and dedication to their craft has been acknowledge. We are incredibly excited about the main awards set for 28 August 2022 and look forward to celebrating with South African music lovers.”
