Seun Kuti comments on Donald Trump and the world’s elite

Seun, son of the Afrobeat Legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, said, “Everybody is suddenly saying that America is racist. You know, America voted for Obama twice. Not to say there’s no racism in America. I’m a black man, so I know for sure that America is racism and Trump is America. So, for anybody to try and just act as if Trump is an anomaly, to me, is a slap in the face to we in the third world that experience American foreign policy everyday.”

He also spoke about the world’s elite, saying “The class struggle in the world means that the elites always try to put a lot of division in the working class and poor people of the world.” This is in continuance with his theme of bringing making people conscious of the oppressions inherent in society, which was also on display earlier in October as he performed at the 2016 Felabration in cerebration of his father's birthday.

Seun, who has always been vocal about social and economic inequalities, spoke further about how the birth of his daughter has led to his increased level of consciousness. He spoke of a need to make the world a better place for his daughter who did not ask to be brought to the world by him and his wife.

Seun released a three-song EP earlier in the year titled Struggle Sounds, and will be on tour of the United States starting from 23 November. Tour dates can be gotten here.
