21 Feb 2025 - 10:20
Sheer Publishing Africa has announced a new partnership with the Music Business Academy Southern Africa (MBA) to host a series of exclusive Music Business Network sessions across the country.
The collaboration aims to create a platform for music professionals to connect, share knowledge, and foster industry growth.
The first event is scheduled to take place in Sandton, Johannesburg on 27 February. Sheer Publishing’s managing director, Thando Makhunga, will be joined by a panel of distinguished guests and keynote speakers, including deputy minister of Sport, Arts & Culture, Peace Mabe, and SAMRO general manager of licensing, Karabo Senna.
These networking sessions will focus on providing insights into the evolving landscape of music publishing and the broader music business. Discussions will cover key topics such as royalties, licensing, and copyright essentials, equipping artists and industry professionals with the knowledge needed to navigate the sector successfully.
“By facilitating insightful conversations, networking opportunities, and knowledge-sharing among music industry leaders, we aim to provide professionals with a deeper understanding of the complexities of music publishing,” Makhunga said.
Beyond the Music Business Network sessions, Sheer Publishing Africa has been actively involved in several initiatives to support and elevate the African music industry. The organisation has also partnered with the Academy of Sound Engineering (ASE) to enhance music education, particularly in the field of music publishing. Through masterclasses and mentorship programmes, students gain first-hand exposure to the inner workings of the industry.
Through these strategic partnerships and educational initiatives, Sheer Publishing Africa continues to play a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable and thriving music industry in South Africa and beyond.
