Suno adds AI song generation to Apple’s Messages app on iPhone
17 Jul 2026 - 09:28
Artificial intelligence music platform Suno has introduced a new feature that allows iPhone users to generate songs directly within Apple’s Messages app using text prompts or voice recordings.
Suno co-founder and CEO Mikey Shulman.
The update enables users with the Suno app installed to access the service through the iMessage app drawer, allowing them to create AI-generated songs without leaving the messaging application.
According to Suno, users can choose a musical genre before generating a track and create multiple versions of a song before sharing it in a conversation. The company said both the sender and recipient must have the Suno app installed to exchange AI-generated songs through the feature.
The update reflects a growing social media trend in which users transform text messages into songs using generative AI tools.
In addition to the iMessage integration, Suno has introduced several features previously available only on its web platform. These include the option to select male or female vocal styles, an updated user interface, AI-generated sound effects and a new Mashup feature that combines two songs into a single composition.
The company has also launched a football-themed feature that allows users to create personalised supporter anthems by answering questions about their favourite teams.
The new tools arrive as Suno remains embroiled in legal disputes with major record companies, including Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, over allegations that it used copyrighted recordings without authorisation to train its AI models.
Suno argues that its use of publicly available music for AI training is protected under the US doctrine of fair use, while the record companies contend that the platform infringed copyright by copying protected works without permission.
The release also follows recent reports that hacked Suno source code allegedly identified platforms including YouTube Music, Deezer and Genius among the sources used to build the company's training datasets. Suno has acknowledged that its models were trained using music files and related metadata available on the open internet but has maintained that it complied with applicable access restrictions.
Despite the ongoing litigation, Suno continues to expand its consumer-facing products, with the company saying its platform generates approximately 7 million AI-created songs each day.
