Tanzania top pop singer Abigail Chams has released her latest single, ‘Hold Me’. The release follows her recent nomination for Best New International Act at the 2025 BET Awards, making her the first solo female artist from East Africa to earn the node.
The new track, marks Chams’ second single of the year and arrives at a pivotal moment in her rising career. The 21-year-old Tanzanian singer is set to attend the BET Awards in Los Angeles on 9 June, where she will represent a new generation of African talent making waves on the global music scene.
Produced by acclaimed Nigerian beatmaker Runcheck, ‘Hold Me’ blends elements of hip hop, R&B, Afrobeats and bongo flava. Delivered in her signature mix of Swahili and English, the song is an emotional exploration of heartbreak and inner resilience. “‘Hold Me’ comes from a very real place,” Chams said. “It’s about the kind of love that feels deep but hurts deeper and learning to find strength in vulnerability.”
Chams, who has gained recognition for her soulful vocals and genre-defying sound, says the track reflects her personal and artistic growth. With more music expected later this year, she continues to establish herself as one of Africa’s most promising new voices.
‘Hold Me’ is available for streaming and download on major streaming platforms.
