Tanzanian singer Anjella has inked a record deal with local label Konde Music Worldwide (KMW).
The deal was confirmed during a press conference at Hyatt Regency in Dar es Salaam on 12 March. Anjella’s deal coincided with the release of her debut single ‘Kama‘ featuring award-winning bongo flava artist and KMW owner Harmonize.
Speaking at the press conference, Harmonize said the label would put its machinery behind the promising musician in an unwavering effort to create the next influential female artist.
“We have worked with Anjella for a few months and are satisfied with her discipline,” he said. “Everything that has to do with artist management and her brand is taken care of as of today. When I first heard her, I was intrigued by her voice and confidence. Despite facing discrimination due to her lymphedema condition, she still kept her dream alive. I know that when she exceeds all our expectations, she will be an inspiration to many who may feel they are not good enough for greatness."
Anjella was also awarded an artist registration certificate and licence to perform by National Arts Council (BASATA) executive secretary Matiko Mniko.
“I would like to thank Harmonize and his team for acknowledging our role in such matters," Mniko said. “We also congratulate Anjella and offer her our full support by granting her the certificate and licence, which will allow her to operate as an artist. We are also here today because as a government institution, we are tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that artists sign the right recording deal.”
Anjella’s rise to stardom came in February when Harmonize featured her in his single ‘All Night’. She earned the collaboration after emerging top in a social media challenge that Harmonize had put out to find new talent. The video has since amassed more than 2.2 million views on YouTube.
She joins an impressive roster of emerging local artists signed to KMW, including Ibraah, Cheed, Killy, Country Boy, and Skales from Nigeria.
