Tanzanian bongo flava musician Mbosso on 17 September inked an endorsement deal with the country’s leading dairy processing company, Tanga Fresh.
The deal, which makes Mbosso the official brand ambassador of the product, is the musician’s first major endorsement in his music career.
The 'Tamba' hitmaker said the partnership was an example of how companies are moving from music sponsorships to partnering with artists. He also said that the strategy creates a collaboration that serves both the artist and company.
"This endorsement speaks a lot about my growth as an artist because it is my first ever ambassadorial role," he said. "I honour and pledged to play my new role to the best of my abilities. We shall soon be rolling out a product marketing campaign. Although I am not in a position to tell you the duration of this deal, what I can say is that WCB [Wasafi Classic Baby] artists do not get an endorsement deal that's under one year."
Tanga Fresh marketing manager Ally Saleh Sechonge said: "We are proud to welcome Mbosso to the Tanga Fresh family as our new ambassador. His selection as a brand ambassador would help the company to reach our target audience further."
Mbosso is the second artist under WCB to secure a major endorsement deal. Last year, WCB president Diamond Platnumz was officially named as the Pepsi Brand Ambassador in East Africa.
Born Mbwana Yusuf Kilungi, Mbosso launched his music career as a member of Yamoto Band in 2013. The bongo flavour group achieved massive success in East Africa, but broke up in 2017 citing irreconcilable differences as the chief reason.
A year later, Mbosso signed a contract with WCB where he would gain some commercial success as a solo artist. Some of his popular songs include 'Sina Nyota', 'Tamba', 'Hodari' and 'Nipepe', among others. Meanwhile, the musician’s debut album is set for release later this year.
