Tanzania: Singeli meets amapiano on Meja Kunta’s Chuu
19 Oct 2023 - 08:48
Tanzanian singeli artist Meja Kunta has released a new single titled ‘Chuu’, which is available for streaming and download on major digital platforms.
On ‘Chuu’, Meja Kunta joins forces with fellow Tanzanian musician Baba Levo and South African artist Ntosh Gazi, infusing elements of amapiano into the vibrant offering.
The track’s production is credited to Eyoo Kenny, who was recognised as the Best Singeli Music Producer at the 2023 Tanzania Music Awards. ‘Chuu’ was crafted by Meja Kunta to entertain fans, particularly those who revel in social gatherings and party atmospheres.
Notably, this marks a historic moment in Tanzanian music as ‘Chuu’ stands as the inaugural singeli composition to feature an international collaborator, elevating the genre’s position on the global stage further – as the ‘Singeli to the World Movement’ truly gains momentum.
This collaborative effort follows Meja Kunta’s recent signing with Bxtra Records, a Tanzanian label helmed by well-known music producer Hermy B. The imprint also oversees the endeavours of artists like Country Wizzy, Jaivah and Cherry, among others.
This year alone, Meja Kunta’s creative output expanded with notable releases like ‘Ushali’, ‘Tabia Mbaya’ and the ‘Demu Wangu Remix’ featuring Marioo, showcasing his dynamic artistry.
