According to reports online, pop act Tekno, who scored a major hit last year with ‘Pana’, was to be one of the headlining at the forthcoming edition of the Ghana meets Naija event. which takes place in May.
Since the release of ‘Pana’, the artist, whose real name is Augustine Miles, has recorded a number of hit singles including ‘Diana’, ‘Rara’ and ‘Yawa’. He has signed a record deal with global music establishment Sony, and was touted by Billboard as a possible breakout star from Africa.
Tekno was supposed to perform at the event with the rapper Sarkodie and dancehall act Shatta Wale, both of whom were to represent Ghana. Davido was to join Tekno on the Nigerian side of the event which structures performances as a sort of duel between both countries.
The artists to be featured were revealed in an interview with Bola Ray, head of the organising company.
“So let me give Live FM an exclusive, Davido is coming through confirmed and signed,” said Ray to a Ghanaian radio station. “Davido is on for Ghana Meets Naija. Sark is making a return, we have Shatta (Wale) as well…they should also look out for Tekno.”
It has now been announced that these names are unofficial as the organisers are yet to produce a list of artists for the event. "We are still in talks with some and we are hopeful that in the next few days, we will be able to communicate the final list,” said a member of a planning committee. "We have had extensive negotiations and cannot wait to let people in on our final list. It is the best you can have currently from the two countries."
