TikTok announces AI literacy, transparency measures at AI for Good Global Summit
14 Jul 2026 - 15:11
TikTok has announced a series of initiatives aimed at improving artificial intelligence (AI) literacy, strengthening transparency around AI-generated content and tackling AI-generated spam, as part of the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva.
TikTok global public policy AI lead Tom Varghese.
The company said the measures are intended to help users identify AI-generated content, use AI tools responsibly and improve protections against misuse of the technology on the platform.
“We believe people should have context, confidence and control over their experiences with AI on TikTok. We continue to invest in technologies, partnerships and educational resources that help people spot AI-generated content, understand how it's created, and use these tools creatively and responsibly,” TikTok global public policy AI lead Tom Varghese said.
TikTok said it is testing enhanced detection systems designed to identify accounts that primarily post AI-generated spam, as part of efforts to reduce content that may undermine original creators and user trust.
According to the company, more than 86 million fake accounts were removed globally during the first quarter of 2026 as it continued to strengthen its spam detection capabilities.
TikTok said more than three billion videos have been labelled as AI-generated using a combination of Content Credentials, creator disclosure tools and invisible watermarking technology.
The platform also announced that it has joined the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) Steering Committee, where it will work with other organisations on developing industry standards for content authenticity and AI transparency.
The company said the collaboration aims to encourage wider adoption of technologies that help users identify AI-generated content across digital platforms.
TikTok said it is expanding its AI literacy programme in partnership with organisations including the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) and AI expert Henry Ajder, who have collaborated on educational guidance for users.
The company is also launching an in-app AI literacy hub in selected markets, including South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya. The hub will provide educational resources designed to help users recognise AI-generated content and understand how AI tools are used on the platform.
TikTok said it has committed more than US$4 million to its AI Literacy Fund since the programme was launched in November 2025.
The company said it has worked with organisations including Moxi Africa in South Africa, the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, Africa Check and Paradigm Initiative in Nigeria, and Eveminet and Mtoto News in Kenya to produce AI literacy content.
According to TikTok, these partnerships have collectively generated more than 200 million views.
TikTok said it will continue investing in AI-powered creative tools, including Smart Split and AI Outline, as well as features such as Manage Topics, which allows users to adjust how much AI-generated content appears in their feeds.
The platform also highlighted creators from Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa who are using AI for educational and creative purposes, including Tonnee Ndungu, Nyandia Gachago, Olayemi Afolabi, Comfort Obiagbaoso, Motso Mike and Akhil, an AI engineer and founder.
The announcements form part of TikTok’s broader efforts to expand AI literacy, improve transparency around AI-generated content and strengthen safeguards as the use of artificial intelligence continues to grow on digital platforms.
