The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is proud of its partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as a Strategic Implementing Partner (SIP) for its Social Employment Fund (SEF). Through this collaboration, MIAF is running a national programme that is creating jobs, addressing skills gaps, and strengthening South Africa's creative industries — in line with the SEF's overarching goal to generate work for the common good and build community value through employment, social contribution, and inclusive economic participation. Operating under the banner NEFCISA (National Employment Facility for Creative Industries in South Africa), the initiative is recruiting and training participants, matching them with host organisations, and has already placed 1 500 workers across the country — surpassing its original target of 1 000. NEFCISA is delivered through a network of 20 host organisations spanning five provinces, who are actively hosting participants and contributing to work for the common good across South Africa's creative and cultural industries. Key Objectives: Support employment and entrepreneurship in the creative industries. Offer skills development and training programmes. Foster partnerships between public and private creative sectors. Promote South African creativity at both provincial and national levels Foster community development through social contribution.

For cultural and creative practitioners and organisations operating in southern Africa, access to funding remains a major challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a massive impact on government policy, spending and the economy in general, and has seen spending on culture being moved further down the list of priorities. Further, the cultural and creative industries repeatedly cite four main areas where investment is needed for growth, which are increased visibility, mobility including access to new markets, finance and support structures.

In a musical landscape often driven by trends and repetition, it is rare to encounter a body of work that feels truly timeless, something that doesn’t just entertain, but transports. Released on February 20, 2026, via Session Work Records, the album is already stirring global attention and for good reason. It is not just music; it is an experience. A stunner in every sense.

Manu Delago and Max ZT

In a meeting of ancient resonance and modern innovation, Grammy-nominated musicians Manu Delago and Max ZT unveil Deuce, a debut collaborative album that feels less like a release and more like a sonic pilgrimage. Recorded in a centuries-old Austrian monastery, the project merges the shimmering tones of the hammered dulcimer with the hypnotic warmth of the handpan, crafting a listening experience that is both meditative and strikingly alive. Already earning praise from NPR as “a timeless, beautiful, radiant set of songs, Deuce positions itself as a bold reimagining of instrumental storytelling.

Deuce arrives as the first full-length collaboration between two boundary-pushing virtuosos whose musical paths have long hinted at convergence. Manu Delago, known for reshaping the language of the handpan, joins forces with Max ZT, a hammered dulcimer innovator often described as redefining the instrument itself. Together, they explore a rare sonic dialogue that bridges centuries of musical evolution.

At the heart of Deuce lies a compelling contrast, one of the world’s oldest stringed instruments intertwined with one of its newest percussive inventions. The result is not a clash, but a seamless fusion. Each composition unfolds with patience, allowing rhythm and texture to breathe, stretch, and settle into intricate, almost meditative soundscapes. There’s a quiet confidence in the way the album moves, never rushing, yet never static.

The origins of this collaboration trace back nearly a decade, when the two artists first shared a stage in New York City. What began as admiration quickly evolved into creative curiosity. Over the years, improvisational sessions gave way to structured compositions, culminating in a recording process that feels as intentional as the music itself. Set within an 18th-century Baroque hall inside a much older Alpine monastery, the environment became an invisible third collaborator, lending natural acoustics that amplify the album’s organic depth.

There is also a symbolic layer woven into the project. Both artists, having recently turned 40, frame Deuce as a moment of reflection and duality, two musicians, two instruments, two creative forces meeting at a shared point of maturity. The title itself carries this quiet symmetry, hinting at balance, partnership, and evolution.

Beyond the studio, Deuce is already extending its reach. A three-month European tour, spanning over 30 dates, will bring these compositions into live spaces across cities like Berlin, London, Manchester, and Vienna. A North American debut tour is set to follow in the autumn, signaling the duo’s intent to translate their carefully crafted recordings into immersive, real-time experiences.

Rooted in global influence and driven by a spirit of exploration, Deuce does not simply revisit tradition, it reshapes it. In the hands of Manu Delago and Max ZT, sound becomes landscape, memory, and movement all at once, inviting listeners into a world that feels ancient, yet unmistakably new.

Deuce is more than an album, it is a meeting point of time, culture, and human expression. It reminds us that music, at its highest form, transcends boundaries and speaks directly to the soul. In the hands of Manu Delago and Max ZT, tradition is not preserved, it is reborn. Innovation is not forced, it flows naturally - and beauty is not chased, it simply exists.

This is the kind of work that lingers long after the final note fades. A rare, luminous creation that doesn’t just deserve to be heard but to be felt, deeply and fully.
