Twitch launches music community development programme

The programme will seek to offer advice and tips, and help users build audiences and improve their broadcasts. The Amazon-owned live-streaming platform says it is dedicated to helping musicians grow, and the goal of the initiative is to showcase the diverse creators that broadcast in the category.

The programme will consist of six weeks of education about features, products and best practices, which is expected to help participants to set goals while levelling up their current broadcasts. Twitch says it hopes that the programme will become reoccurring in order to continue serving music creators from all backgrounds.

Additionally, Twitch will be promoting in August new and established musicians who are operating on its platform, which will include featuring their streams on the service’s homepage and its own official channel. Some of the streamers will include violinist and singer ThatViolinChick and freestyle artist The Dapper Rapper.

Starting 7 August, the channel will also include a show called Follow Fridays: Music Edition, which is designed to promote smaller streamers. It will focus on top clips from musicians with chat voting in each category.

“We’ll be mixing and matching, with categories such as Top 5 Freestyles and Top 5 Drum Solos interspersed with segments highlighting some rising stars on the Twitch music scene,” a Twitch blogpost reads.

Other channels on Twitch such as Bandsintown Live and Bandsintown Outskirts are also doing their part to promote new artists and music. Both channels have presented more than 470 artists since launching in May with three to five days of dedicated weekly programming.
