Uganda: Jazz Safari donates to disabled pupils ahead of Richard Bona gig

Johnnie Walker Jazz Safari founder and musician Tshaka Mayanja told local media that the equipment, which is valued at about 250 million Ugandan shillings ($58 000), would help enhance the skills and learning efforts of the pupils at the school.

Earlier this year, the school was selected as the beneficiary of the equipment, which was obtained through the private sector and a partnership with UK-based company Disc Manufacturing Services.

“Our partnership has been flourishing and we look forward to reaching as far as taking up staff welfare at the school for the next five years with an annual donation of about 12 million Ugandan shillings. Renovations are ongoing at the school as well,” Mayanja said.

Johnnie Walker Jazz Safari is an annual event that features local and international jazz artists. This year’s edition will be headlined by Grammy Award-winning Cameroonian jazz bassist Richard Bona at Speke Resort in Kampala on 30 June

“Richard Bona is a proven world-class act who has consistently performed at the top for years now," Roger Agamba, Johnnie Walker brand manager at Uganda Breweries Limited, said.

"He is the kind of talent you do not get to see every day, so we are more than delighted to be part of his show in Uganda. With more than 10 albums and a world tour under his belt, Bona brings a rich heritage of jazz music that puts him up there with the best in the business.”

Joining Bona onstage will be Mayanja, Kaz Kasozi, Black Roots Unlimited, Michael Kitanda, Tony Trumpeta and Aloysious Migadde.
