Uganda: Michael Kiwanuka to headline 2022 Green Man festival

The 34-year-old musician and Mercury Prize winner was slated to headline the festival last year before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Kiwanuka’s fourth appearance at the festival will see him play a set of beloved tracks, including ‘Love & Hate’ and ‘Home Again’.

Managing director and owner of the Green Man festival Fiona Stewart said that the full line-up would be announced next year.

“We’re so excited about Green Man’s 20th birthday, and we’re planning to celebrate his big anniversary with lots of wonderful surprises and the best party ever,” she said.

Apart from music, the festival will have art installations and a science and education area to allow discussions, stalls and experiments for children and adults.

Kiwanuka is a former session musician who dropped out of the Royal Academy of Music to become a solo artist. He first attracted attention after supporting British singer Adele on her tour in 2011 and after winning the BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll.

In June, he won the UK Album of the Year at the MPG Awards for his third self-titled album, Kiwanuka. The album, which explores issues of race and his own cultural heritage, also earned him two nominations at the BRIT Awards and Grammy Awards in 2020.
