Uganda’s Moses Matovu releases new gospel album

Together with the band, Moses has released 21 albums. Out of these, Volume 8 of 1989 remains Afrigo’s most successful recording of all time. The six-track album consisted of the songs ‘Speed Controle’, ‘Afrigo Batuuse 2’, ‘Emere Esiridde’, ‘Twali Twagalana’, ‘Amazzi Genyama’ and ‘Mundeke Mbere Noyo’.

Recently the Afrigo Band leader has released a new solo gospel album, titled Katonda Tumusinzenga. The title track is the first single off the album. In it the singer calls upon believers in God to praise and love Him for all that He created. Moses says it has taken him close to a year and two months to record the album. While the majority of the songs are solo efforts, on others like ‘Lwaki Ogenda’ he has collaborated with Joanita, a member of the Afrigo Band.

Currently aged 66, Matovu is not about to hang up his microphone anytime soon. He says he is currently working on a new project that will focus on African jazz. He added that with discipline, interest and dedication, one can’t go wrong in the music industry. In an email to Music In Africa, Matovu explained that up-and-coming artists who are venturing into live music performances in order to make a living have to take rehearsals very seriously.
