Rising maskandi artist Umlabalaba drew a large crowd to The Workshop in Durban on Saturday for the launch of his latest album Izethembiso, an event that attracted fans from across KwaZulu-Natal and other parts of South Africa.
The concert marked a significant moment in the artist’s career, with the venue hosting a full programme of performances celebrating the new release. The night featured appearances from several established and emerging Maskandi artists, including Ntencane, Mjolisi, Nkeshemba, Bahubhe, Amasinamuva Amasha and Thwasa Lekhansela.
“This album is very personal to me,” he said. “Seeing so many people come out to support and celebrate this moment means everything. Izethembiso is a promise to my fans that I will continue to give them authentic music from the heart and I would like to thank each and every one of them for loving me as much as I love them.”
Each performer contributed to a line-up that showcased contemporary developments within traditional Zulu music, with the audience maintaining strong engagement throughout the event.
Umlabalaba performed tracks from ‘Izethembiso’, appearing on stage in traditional Zulu regalia. The album explores themes of hope, promises and perseverance, and has already begun gaining traction with listeners.
