Nigerian singer Waje will be performing at an AIDS benefit concert on 24 October. Holding in the US and tagged ‘Divas Simply Singing’ the event is ‘the longest running benefit concert in the country’.
Performing alongside Waje are Erica Campbell (one-half of US gospel duo Mary Mary), Mary Wilson (of The Supremes), Jordin Sparks, A’ngela Winbush, Meli’sa Morgan, Shanice, rapper YoYo, Alyson Williams, Freda Payne and CeCe Peniston. Actresses Loretta Divine and Jennifer Lewis.
Divas Simply Singing is now in its 25th year. Organised by actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, the show will hold at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Hollywood. Ms. Lee Ralph took to instagram to announcing the inclusion of the Nigerian singer on the line up.
‘JUST ADDED #Nigerian #Diva #UNAmbassador #officialwaje Saturday at the @Montalban in Hollywood,’ she wrote.
The past few months have seen Waje become involved with various humanitarian projects—from establishing Waje Safe House for street children to her spot on ‘Strong Girl,’ theme song for the One Campaign’s ‘Poverty is Sexist’ programme.
Waje’s humanitarian activities have not her from the music, as she has performed at monthly Lagos concert Afropolitan Vibes in August. She has also released a music video for her duet with reggae/dancehall act Patoranking, ‘Left for Good’.
