Nigeria: ru. releases five-track EP SILK

Released on 5 August, the EP marks the Abuja-born artist’s latest body of work and follows a series of singles that have helped establish her as an emerging voice in Nigeria’s contemporary music scene.

Blending Afropop, soul and alternative R&B, SILK examines the emotional experiences of femininity through songs centred on resilience, desire and personal growth. According to the artist, the project is intended as a tribute to women navigating different stages of life and relationships.

The release expands on themes first introduced in her single ‘WOMAN’, produced by Mr Eff and mixed and mastered by Johnny Drille. The track debuted at number 25 on Nigerian radio and focused on celebrating the strength and resilience of women.

Before SILK, ru. gained recognition with the singles ‘I Think I Love U’ and ‘I Think I Love U 2’, featuring Magixx. Combined, the two songs have accumulated more than one million streams across digital platforms.

Speaking about the project, ru. described SILK as a reflection on womanhood and personal growth.

“SILK is my meditation on womanhood, a tender, self-assured body of work that honours the beauty of becoming. It's a love letter to women navigating love, desire, vulnerability and self-discovery.”

She added that the project embraces softness as a source of strength rather than fragility.

“Like the fabric itself, SILK is delicate in feel yet enduring in strength. It explores femininity as both intimate and powerful, tracing longing, resilience, beauty and quiet transformation.”

The EP features five tracks ‘Entertainer’, ‘Girly Girl’, ‘Colours’, ‘Falling’ and ‘Adam’.

ru.’s music combines contemporary Afropop with soul and alternative R&B influences, drawing on personal experiences, faith and emotional storytelling. She has become known for her vocal style and songwriting, which frequently explore themes of vulnerability, identity and self-expression.

With SILK, the singer continues to build her catalogue as she seeks to establish herself within Africa's growing alternative pop and R&B landscape.
