Win a free online session with SA bassist Schalk vd Merwe

The session will be hosted on Bandwith Pro, a platform where music professionals offer lessons to music enthusiasts and aspiring artists.

Schalk has a music career that spans more than two decades, having contributed to more than 50 albums and many singles including 28 number one hits. He is also the long-time bassist for South African rock fire brand, Karen Zoid, as well as a founding member of renowned Cape Town funk-hop band Bed on Bricks.

The service comprises a number of professional musicians who learned a lot by “hanging out with the best, watching them, asking questions, jamming with them and absorbing their knowledge”. The group believes users can learn from them too.

Hosted by Shiba Melissa Mazaza, the fifth episode of Bandustry will feature South African bassist, composer, and vocalist Bakithi Kumalo and Avant-Garde singer Gazelle. The two have both worked across the world stepping outside the comfortability of their own bands.

By unravelling some of the benchmark collaborators in the music industry, the panel will explore how collaboration can become a powerful tool for musicians as well as how working across genres and cultures has had great benefits for them.

Previous episodes of the Bandustry Live series have discussed branding, legalities and how to forge relationships between analytics and audiences, among others.
