Zimbabwe: Rich Forbes video on MTV Base, Channel O

Shot in Cape Town, South Africa, ‘Turn Up My Levels’ is a typical club song, which talks about having a good time, money, women and artistic integrity. The video portrays BMX riding and American convertibles in the coastal city’s downtrodden areas contrasted to its natural beauty.

Real name Buttler Mugadza, Forbes released the video on Christmas Eve last year before it was submitted for consideration with the TV channels.

“I am overwhelmed by how the video has propelled in the music industry, it means a lot to be recognised on such a big platform and for a Zimbabwean like me it’s a big deal,” Forbes told NewsDay.

“I feel like the whole nation is rallying behind me, as I have exported the culture and our local music across the continent.”

Forbes draws inspiration from South African rappers such as Emtee and Cassper Nyovest. Apart from this video, Forbes has eight singles, with ‘Paper Money’ being his debut. All his songs have received airplay on local radio stations.

“After making waves, I think it’s high time I come up with a full album,” he said. “I have done much of the groundwork and I promise fans that it will drop at the end of the year and it will feature South African artists in a bid to exchange cultures and skill.”
