Zimdancehall star Soul Jah Love dead at 31
Popular Zimbabwean artist Soul Jah Love has passed away. He was 31.
According to internet reports, the dancehall star was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Harare on Tuesday evening. Born Soul Musaka, the versatile artist had been battling diabetes for many years.
Soul Jah Love is widely celebrated for his key contributions to Zimdancehall, a very popular genre in the country. He rose to prominence in 2012 with a string of hits including ‘Ndini uya uya’, ‘Gum-kum’ and ‘Zvandinomudira’, which dominated charts for many weeks. In a career spanning just over a decade, the artist worked with almost all the big names in Zimbabwean urban music, playing sold-out shows across the country, South Africa, the UK and Australia.
Soul Jah Love was often praised for his freestyling abilities, which earned him features on numerous Zimdancehall mixtapes, making him one of the most-loved MCs in the country, especially among the youth. Just a few weeks ago, the artist had premiered a new song 'Simudza Gumbo' on YouTube.
