South African musicians Zwai Bala and Ringo Madlingozi have been announced as guest judges of Idols SA, which is set to return for a 17th season on 11 July.
Somizi Mhlongo, Unathi Nkayi and Randall Abrahams will return to the show with Proverb as the host. The reality TV show, which attracted a record of 15 000 online entrants, will see participants battling for top honours throughout the season. Idols SA will start airing all online auditions on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161) at 5.30pm on 11 July.
“We are excited that South Africa’s most-loved talent search show, Idols SA, returns this Sunday to entertain our viewers and most importantly, to give a platform for South Africa’s unearthed talent to reach for their dreams,” M-Net director of local entertainment channels Nomsa Philiso said.
All auditions were held online to adhere to COVID-19 safety regulations and this year’s season will run under the theme, Reuniting Mzansi, the organisers said.
“The current status quo does not allow us to do things the traditional way. For Season 17, there is a positive aspect in the restrictions that come with COVID-19. All eligible hopefuls from all corners of our country can enter without worrying about getting to the audition’s venue,” Idols SA said.
Emalahleni-born singer Zama Khumalo won last year’s competition, which gave viewers tension-filled entertainment during its final stages.
