Omawumi

Bio

Born Omawunmi Megbele, on 13 April 1982. Omawumi studied Law, briefly practising as a lawyer at her family's establishment.

An interest in and talent for singing came to the fore, when she went in for and came second in the "Idols" singing talent show in 2007, winning admiration for her powerful vocal delivery.

In 2008, she released her debut single 'In the Music'. A hit, the song won her several awards. Her debut album Wonder Woman wa released in 2009 with hit songs like ‘Ma Fi Mi Shere’ featuring Eldee The Don, ‘Chocolata’ featuring Naeto C and ‘Today Na Today’. It is said to have sold 100,000 copies in a week.

'The Lasso of Truth', was released in April 2013, with a successful launch concert featuring the veteran singer Onyeka Onwenu. Singers Tuface Idibia, Timaya, Wizkid, Waje and Tiwa Savage were also present.

Among her awards are the City People Awards and the Nigerian Music Awards.
