Bio
Calene Ingabire, professionally known as Kaya Byinshii, is a renowned Rwandese artist excelling as a singer, songwriter, performer, and actress. Inspired by her cultural roots, blues melodies, and spiritual faith, Byinshii burst onto the music scene in 2020 with her EP "Nyabyinshi" a powerful tribute to Rwandese spirituality released under Green Ferry Music.
In 2022, Byinshii launched her debut album titled "Ukwiyuburura," which marked the beginning of her unique sonic journey, earning her the moniker "Volcano" for her explosive talent and energy. This milestone picked her recognition as a finalist in the prestigious Prix Decouvertes/RFI competition in 2021 and again in 2023.
Byinshii embarked on a groundbreaking "Africa Tour" from May to June 2023, captivating audiences across Bujumbura, Kampala, Alger, Annaba, Constantine, Oran, Tlemcen, Djibouti, Nairobi, Addis Ababa, and concluding the tour in her hometown of Kigali, further solidified her status as a rising star on the global stage.
Beyond her musical talents, Byinshii's versatility shines through as an actress. Since March 2024, she has been featured in the Kinyarwanda-adapted stage production of "Gahugu Gato/Petit Pays" by Gael Faye, directed by Frederic Fisbach and Didacienne Nibagwire, contributing as both a music composer and actress.
Currently, Byinshii is immersed in the creative process, writing and conceptualizing her next studio project, poised to further cement her legacy as a multifaceted artist pushing boundaries and captivating audiences worldwide.
