James BKS teams up with Nomcebo Zikode and Angélique Kidjo on new single
French-Cameroonian artist James BKS has featured Grammy winners Nomcebo Zikode (South Africa) and Angélique Kidjo (Benin) on a single in the second instalment of his double album Wolves of Africa set for release in September.
James BKS has teamed with the two artists on ‘Best We Can’ single that promises a captivating fusion of global music influences intertwined with the pulsating rhythms of amapiano percussions. The accompanying music video, shot in stunning locations in France, New York and Johannesburg, adds a visually immersive dimension to the release.
On the song James BKS’ signature vocal style takes centre stage, narrating a story of hope and resilience through an uplifting message tailored for those navigating challenges while pursuing their dreams.
James BKS’ reflection on the song's essence is profound: “We all fail, we all fall, we all make mistakes, that’s what makes us humans. We are imperfect, yet we, as humans, constantly learn from the past, and what’s important is to never give up on us, never give up on our capacity to grow.”
This sentiment encourages listeners to embrace patience and self-evolution, much like tending to seeds in anticipation of rain.
The collaboration was serendipitous, originating from a meeting at the 2022 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where James performed during the final match.
Nomcebo, recognised globally for her chart-topping hit ‘Jerusalema’ , expressed her excitement about the project, saying “James and Angélique are two of the most unique and talented artists I’ve had the pleasure of working with.”
Building upon the success of the first album instalment, which featured collaborations with luminaries like Idris Elba, will.i.am and Q-Tip, the upcoming 12-track collection project boasts guest appearances from Royce Da 5’9”, Yemi Alade and Grammy winner Carlos Santana.
