Nigeria: John Legend to headline Global Citizen’s Move Afrika tour
US artist John Legend will headline Global Citizen’s highly anticipated Move Afrika tour in Lagos, Nigeria on 25 February.
Move Afrika is Global Citizen’s initiative to create job and entrepreneurship opportunities, and enhance health systems for the continent’s emerging generations through an annual series of live music events.
This year, the tour will expand its reach in both East and West Africa. Before heading to Lagos, the ‘Tonight (Best You Ever Had)’ hitmaker will perform at the iconic BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, on 21 February.
“I’m honoured and excited to perform in Kigali and Lagos as part of the Move Afrika tour, an initiative that not only brings unforgettable shows, but also creates entrepreneurship and job opportunities, empowering young people to engage with Africa’s growing music and creative industries,” John Legend said. “Africa has always been a global cultural powerhouse, and it’s an honour to be part of the future of live music on the continent.”
According to the organisers, the 2025 edition of Move Afrika will drive a citizen-led advocacy campaign championing sustainable development and economic growth, with a dedicated focus on strengthening health systems across Africa. Together with campaign partners, Global Citizen will urge African nations to increase domestic health financing, prioritise primary care and sexual and reproductive health and rights, boost global investments in health resilience, and alleviate financial burdens on nations to strengthen public health.
The inaugural Move Afrika event, Move Afrika: Rwanda, was headlined by Grammy Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning artist, Kendrick Lamar in December 2023. The event was nothing short of spectacular, featuring various artists including Zuchu, Bruce Melodie, DJ TOXXYK, Sherrie Silver, Ariel Wayz, Kivumbi King and Bruce The 1st. The event focused on job creation, skill training and youth entrepreneurship.
Ticket information
Tickets to both events are limited and can be accessed on the Global Citizen app and the Global Citizen website or by sending a message on WhatsApp.
On the Global Citizen app or website, there will be three separate ticket draws for a chance to earn a pair of tickets. Each entry into the draw costs 20 points. Entrants who do not win in their first draw entries, should enter the draw multiple times to keep trying.
The three time periods entrants can enter the draws via the app or website are:
- Draw 1: 14 to 29 January.
- Draw 2: 30 to 5 February.
- Draw 3: 6 to 12 February.
The winners of the draws will be notified by email the day after each draw ends. On WhatsApp, there will only be one draw from now until 12 February. Winners will be notified on 13 February via WhatsApp. At the start of each week, the organisers will send a simple action to complete, followed by an update at the end of that same week. By responding to any of these actions, entrants will automatically be entered into the draw for a chance to earn a pair of tickets.
For every further action complete on WhatsApp, entrants will get another entry. Pro-tips for WhatsApp: Firstly, make sure you have WhatsApp. Entrants should not forget to save the Global Citizen’s number on their devices (Nigeria: +234 901 398 2743 and Rwanda: +250 790 008 555).
