The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. We convey a comprehensive picture of Germany by providing information on Germany's cultural, social and political life.

The Goethe-Institut in Johannesburg regulates the work in the Sub-Saharan countries including 12 institutes. Our Cultural Programmes Department focuses on a variety of different artistic approaches from the visual arts to drama, dance, literature, film, music and others.

Our support for the Music In Africa initiative is in line with our strategy of strengthening cultural infrastructures and the arts sector in Sub Saharan Africa, as well as promoting pan-African dialogue. The goal of the cooperation with Music In Africa is to establish a sustainable structure with local partners that contributes to a vibrant music scene on the continent.
