RJ Benjamin
Bio
Joburg-based singer, songwriter, composer and producer RJ Benjamin graduated from Allenby Campus in 2000 and stayed on, aged 22, as a teacher for the likes of Idols winner Elvis Blue and producer Robin Kohl. In 2004 he released his debut, Who I Am, a blend of neo-soul, funk and jazz. His 2008 follow-up, Swimming In The Soul Of Music, won a Metro FM Awards for Best R&B Album. Change The World (2009) introduced him to local house fans. The title track featured on the Soul Candi Session 4 compilation album and was nominated for a Channel O Award for Best Dance Video and a Sama for Song of the Year. Following that success, RJ released the album House Bound.
After a three-year break, RJ remixed and “soulified” tracks from House Bound and others he had featured on by Dr Duda, DJ Kent and DJ Fresh to create Inside (2012). RJ was head vocal coach on the TV show Project Fame and musical director of M-Net's Clash of the Choirs South Africa in 2013. He has been a vocal coach to some of South Africa's hottest stars such as Lira, Mi Casa’s J'Something and Toya Delazy.
