BIO
TY Bello (Toyin Sokefun-Bello) is a Nigerian gospel singer. Initially a member of gospel-inspirational group KUSH, she went solo following the group’s breakup after releasing a single album. Born in Ogun state in Nigeria’s South-western region, she obtained a degree in Economics from the University of Lagos.
Bello had a stint in journalism, settling for photography for which she does sessions for Thisday Style magazine. She released her debut album ‘Greenland’ in 2008. ‘Greenland’ later won a Nigeria Music Award and a Sound City Award. Continuing the inspirational bent of KUSH, the album produced the inescapable titular song—its video was lauded for its visual aesthetics which employed her other passion photography.
In 2011, she released another titular song from the album ‘The Future’. The video showed singer Banky W and Sound Sultan along with prominent figures from other fields. ‘The Morning Songbook’ came out in 2014 without prior promotion and available for free online through the portal SoundCloud.
TY Bello took delivery of twin children in 2014 and is engaged in philanthropy and various humanitarian campaigns.
