ENC speaks against tribalism

Sensational dancehall singer post in his facebook wall: “ My dad is a Jola, Mum is a Sarahule, my wife is a Wollof, Most of my friends are Mandinka’s, mixed with fulas, Serreres, Manjago and more”

I was born and brought up in a Gambia where every tribes have a joking relationship with the other, in Mandinka we call it "sanaw yaa" in Wollof we call it "kal"... As one of the most vibrant ways we share and sustain fun in our local communities.

This is how every Gambian is interrelated, think of it... How possible can anyone of us accommodate tribalism? Take a moment and think beyond, dig it to the roots and communicate with your conscience.

I remember the first day I went to the main town of Brufut and met a guy whom they introduced me to, he asked my name and where I came from. Once I mentioned to him that am from Brikama he started laughing out the loudest, it took me a little while to understand but I played smart and waited for it.

He told me "Brikama is the worst place in Gambia, you guys don't even have a little stream talk less of a river so you don't know how fresh fish tastes like, you see how breezy Brufut is"? He laughed again.

Then I remembered that Brufut and Brikama has a "serious joking relationship" so I had fire back. I told him "That's why you guys still pays your tax to us.

My favorite of all times is the Baddibunka’s and Kiangka’s , I can spend my whole day listening to them while they go at each other. This is how I define peace and love in our country. How can we chant tribalism in our beautiful Gambia??? We all have a responsibility, let's do it for the smiling coast again.
