Ghana: Gyakie set to release debut album After Midnight
20 Mar 2025 - 13:15
Ghanaian Afrobeats artist Gyakie has announced she will release here debut album, After Midnight, sometime this year.
According to Gyakie’s team, the project draws inspiration from the quiet and reflective hours following midnight.
“Almost all the songs on the album were recorded after midnight,” Gyakie said. “It’s within those hours that I find my best inspiration to write. The peace and quiet, the sounds from the birds, the serenity, everything about that time fuels my creativity. I’ve done a lot of crying after midnight too. When I’m in my down moments, I schedule my tears for when I get home from work, then I let it all out.”
The theme of the album is closely tied to Gyakie’s upbringing. She recalled a cherished family tradition where her mother would pray for her, a ritual that remains significant whenever they are together. “It was a consistent routine, and it still is. That time of the night holds so much meaning for me,” she said.
Before After Midnight, Gyakie has made a name for herself with previous projects including the Seed and My Diary EPs. With each project, she demonstrated the remarkable ability to connect with her fans.
Her impact extends beyond Africa. At the recently concluded Forbes Summit 2025, where she was a featured speaker, she discussed her artistic evolution and her embrace of Afro-fusion. She highlighted her versatility in blending various genres, including hip hop, drill, R&B, and pop, positioning herself as a dynamic artist pushing the boundaries of African music.
