Sauti Academy will be holding auditions for a one-year artist development programme at Shalom House off Ngong Road in Nairobi, Kenya, on 11 August.
The programme is designed for singers, poets and rappers who are between the ages of 18 and 25.
The artist development initiative was first launched in 2010 by Penya Africa, a company that started off as a record label before altering its vision to facilitate the development of young artists in Kenya.
Penya Africa’s artist development programmes are designed to nurture independent talent by inspiring creativity and enhancing musical and business skills.
The training includes:
- Voice technique
- Performance coaching
- Lyrics writing
- Creating melodies
- Exploring genres
- Writing songs for other artists
- Musical identity in songwriting
- Arrangement
- Event organising
- Music business workshops
Requirements
Singers should:
- Be aged between 18 and 25 years
- Memorise two songs in two different languages
- Be ready to sing live accompanied by a musical instrument of their choice
Finalists will be asked to participate in a second round of auditions after which successful candidates will be required to pay academy fees of 30 000 Kenyan shillings ($300) per term. The first term starts on 1 September 2018.
Participants are advised to come with their own instruments or instrumentalists.
